AI SCAM Targeting Real Estate and Photographers

    As chiefly a real estate and architectural photographer, this video was a great bit of info. The Manfrotto ball head I’ve been using for a few years has been solid, but starting to fall apart. I was just about to order a new one when I saw your video. Ordered the K&F geared head instead. Cheaper and might solve the time consuming headache of doing fine adjustments to level out the camera and straighten lines. 😉 The plate doesn’t matter since I use one piece grips/bottom plates that have the Arca dovetail built into them. That part will be solid as a rock! Thank you for taking the time to shoot and upload this video. 😉

    Do they have an AI app that does HDR bracketing with a good final result?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto День тому

      Great question, but no. The cost of making such an app would outweigh the justification and cost for those who would use it: it'd have to be cheaper to make and sell than outsourcing, and there's no way it could defy the laws of physics when using flash, and, moreover, get repeatable results. This might make a great topic for another video?

    What about cameras that have a native ISO? I shoot on a Panasonic Lumix S5IIX and the low native ISO is 640, the high being 3200.

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto 8 днів тому

      That's dual ISO. The S5IIX has a standard ISO range from 100-51200. But neither of those really matter. Most new cameras have dual ISO, they just don't provide the options that the S5IIX does. The same issues apply, no matter the camera, to what I mentioned in the video. You can do testing like I show in the video to see the results on your camera.

    Informative and helpful. Thanks! Unfortunately my area of Bucks County, PA, is experiencing gentrification. Homes in middle class neighborhoods are being remodeled (even razed at times) with larger, nicer homes being built in their places. Quite often homes tend to sell so fast using unedited cell phone images taken by novices. Converging verticals, trash, bad lighting, etc is the norm. So I doubt there will be much of an AI market here. Lol.

    This really is just an particularly sleazy example of the “race to the bottom” by competing on price. There is no way these services, even if they are just portals to a pool of editors, can provide quality or consistency with their work product. For realtors who believe it is acceptable to just snap iPhone picks for their listings, what does this say to their clients? It says they are cheap and will cut all corners possible when marketing their property. That is NOT a good optic for any realtor who wants to still be around in 3 years. You get what you pay for. We need to remember who the ultimate client is. It’s really not the realtor, it is the home owner!

    Thanks Nathan, fully right about these advertisings of Ford among others for flying cars. I am convinced that no machine will ever match human creativity, machines at maximum are only able to reproduce what you put in them. As so often scammers jump on these kind of hypes and the ignorance of the major public on these topics to set up their little business.

  • @paulcarpenter3879
    @paulcarpenter3879 12 днів тому

    Lets also talk about the optics of a Realtor that not only is a hired professional to list and sell their home but is now walking around with a cell phone snapping pics. Why not just do FSBO! I know Realtors and they don't want to do anything outside of their box, ie... floor plans (they could save money doing it themselves but choose us because they couldn't be bothered)

    To those asking if AI will one-day be good enough to replace photogs with cellphone shots: I get asked this question every time I post a video on AI, and the answer remains the same: It likely won't happen, but not for the reasons you might think. Although the physics of light alone will restrict AI from doing what flash can for RE photography while providing truth-in-advertising restricted work (i.e. REP), the cost of making a program and recouping those costs from clients would very likely cost more than just paying an RE photography to do the work. Also, scam companies are coming out of the woodwork saying they have AI apps that can turn cellphone photos into unbelievable images, but, as I'll show in an upcoming video, these "Apps" do nothing more than collect your photos and send them to overseas editors. That's why they have 24-48 hour turnarounds; if it was AI, it would be immediate. Even with that aside, the core of this issue is cost: Although we can dream of technology, it doesn't it would be profitable enough for a company to create it and maintain it. If that weren't the case then we'd all be using flying cars while using our bionic powered limbs. So TL;DR, you're job is secure 🧐

    What do you think about the possibility of AI being able to generate accurate real estate style images from things like a Cubi Casa Scan in the future? Once it has a full high res scan of the property it would be able to generate a whole photoshoot from one scan, it can already do a digital version of it for video

    Hello Nathan. I tried several images of kitchens, some very simple, some more complicated. The results are far from realistic. It keeps planting windows on walls, faucets emerge out of the counter tops, leaves grow out of cabinets and doors appear where the refrigerator should be. You’re 100% on target. In 2001, I set myself ahead of the curve by purchasing the taboo in publishing. I bought a digital 4 mb Oly E-10. All of my blowback came from the publisher saying it was too low rez. Reluctantly they excepted a few small pics and in print, they looked cleaner than the scanned film prints. Understanding that digital was the future, I became more proficient than the film photographers and turn around times were much faster. AI has already helped me to a lesser extent set myself apart against higher level photographers than I faced 20 years ago. My advice, listen to what Nathan is saying and learn how to use AI to set yourself above your competitors.

    I agree that AI won't take our jobs directly. Of all the techniques you need to learn to stop other photographers stealing your jobs, Adobe's AI tools are some of the easiest out there. You literally brush the AI removal tool over the thing you want to remove or draw a box around it and hit generate. I don't think there are going to be many photographers sitting there feeling left behind unless they're too lazy to work that out. What concerns me more is that AI will steal the jobs of portrait and product photographers and then they will look to change genre into types of photography that AI can't replace, and they will try to get into real estate/architecture. So we'll suffer from further increased competition, which will drive rates down on average.

    I thought I'd mention that I often use the GODOX V1 Pro on camera and as a trigger to a 2nd light at events. I shoot mostly Skateboarding and when shooting at events with a vert ramp it's super sketchy to have two off-camera flashes so I normally shoot one off-camera flash in the back and one on the camera. Works well enough for Xgames and such.
